The wool flannel shirt is a wardrobe classic with a rich history. It is believed that the first wool flannel shirts were made in the 17th century against the winter climate of Wales, known for its dampness and winds. An indication of the product’s legacy for posterity is that, to this day, wool flannel is known for its durability and longevity.

From Wales, the garment spread throughout Europe, which helped set up new wool factories. Wool flannel then moved across the ocean to the United States, where it was produced extensively or during the Industrial Revolution.

Flannel shirts have been worn by builders and workers because of their long-lasting quality, and the fabric has been used to keep soldiers warm during the U.S. Civil War and World War I. Wool flannel has also adapted over time. The fabric was made into costumes in the 1950s and later used by many musicians in the 90s.
