The use of a firearm cover is mandatory under Finnish law to ensure safety and legal compliance. According to the Firearms Act and the Hunting Act, a firearm must be transported unloaded, inside a closed cover, and must not be immediately accessible for hunting.

The Firearms Act (9.1.1998/1)

• Section 106 a §: In public places or areas with public access, a firearm may only be transported unloaded and in a cover, and only when there is an acceptable reason for doing so.

• Vehicles: In motorized vehicles, firearms must be transported unloaded, inside a cover, or placed in a locked/secured space.

The Hunting Act (28.6.1993/615)

• Section 35 §: In areas where the person does not have hunting rights or a permit, hunting weapons must be transported unloaded and in a cover.

• Motorized Transport: In aircraft, land vehicles, or boats with the engine running, the weapon must be unloaded and placed in a cover or a secured space.

• Immediate Use: The weapon must be stored in a manner or space where it is not immediately available for hunting.
