FABRIC
The fabric of the Ilves patrol coverall is made of windproof and water-repellent polyamide. The durability of the fabric is increased by the carbon fiber rip-stop reinforcement.
The membrane-free fabric breathes and is comfortable to hold while moving. The fabric weight is only 75g / m2.
The backside and leg openings are reinforced with a wear-resistant and water-impermeable polyester fabric.
Zippers and pockets.
The zippers are splash proof and windproof. Thanks to the wide-opening side zippers, the coverall can be pulled over normal clothing without taking off the shoes. Zippers also open at the top, allowing access to the pockets of the pants below. There are spacious trouser pockets for gloves and for warming your hands.
The chest has practical Napoleon pockets sized for a 0.75 L thermos. There is a secret warm pocket with a zipper for the cell phone inside the left Napoleon pocket. On the top of the left chest is a pocket for the radio. There are practical ventilation zippers on the sides under the armpit. There is a pocket in the back to which you can slip the Ilves insulation plate.
Hollow fiber insulation
The thermal insulation in the coverall is Climashield Apex hollow fiber insulation. Climashield Apex insulation is adapted to Origopro garments from US army Extreme clothing.
Climashield insulation has filament fibers in several layers. The fibers extend along the entire length from seam to seam from top to bottom. The diagonally alternating fiber layers strengthen the structure
Unlike commonly used staple fiber insulation, the Filament fiber insulation does not need to be attached to the lining fabric by quilting, thus avoiding making air-permeable needle holes and the resulting cold bridges. The hollow cavities in the fiber stores warm air.
The continuous fiber filament insulation can be reliably attached to the seams of the garment. A fluffy insulation forms warm pockets between the attachment points, which is then gently pressed against user’s body thus forming protective heat layer close to the skin.
Based on the Lapland -40C snowmobile tests where we used Climashield 3 ounce (110g / m2), we decided to lighten the insulation coveralls to 67g. The lighter insulation is sufficient for a mobile user and can be worn as additional thermal insulation on top of other clothing.
The 67 g / m2 weight of the insulation with 73g/m2 carbon fiber-reinforced cover fabric, makes the coverall feather-light and comfortable to use.
The fleece-lined hood is adjustable at the front and back and is also Climashield-insulated.
